Over the past 10 years, the United States has suffered nearly $24 billion in losses due to flooding.

Most people are unaware that the average homeowners insurance policy- as well as commercial property insurace policies- doesn't typically cover flood damage.

While some people may want to wait until an imminent threat to purchase flood insurance, it is important to note that many policies take 30 days to go into effect, therefore it is advised to purchase ahead of time.
