The Southern Tier Furies placed first over the weekend in a U14 field hockey tournament hosted by the University of Maryland and the United Sports Training Facility in Downingtown, PA. The girls went undefeated in their pool, which placed them against the first place team from the other pool to fight for the overall win. The game tied at 2 - 2, and remained tied even after a 5 minute overtime. The game then went into sudden death with each team getting 3 shots on the opposing goalie. The opposing team only got one shot in the goal, while the Furies were able to get two shots past the opposing goalie for the win! The group is under the direction and guidance of Coach Stephanie Collins (Vestal JV Field Hockey) and is comprised of many talented players from various local schools such as Vestal, Whitney Point and Owego. The girls range in age from 10 years to 14 years. The girls have traveled this summer to tournaments in NY, PA and MA.
