Given the great success of last fall and spring's "Party With a Purpose" events, Binghamton's Economic Development Office and BiziLife Ventures are continuing the series on October 22nd in pairing another local venue and beneficiary. This month, they invite the community to a fundraising mixer at Terra Cotta to support the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition and announce Binghamton Rising™.
Spearheaded by Binghamton University graduates to raise money for The Philanthropy Incubator (a student-created foundation that provides grants to local nonprofit organizations that have sponsored BU graduate students in their internships or field placements), the first Party With a Purpose was held in October 2009 at Sake-Tumi in Downtown Binghamton. With guests including a mix of business and civic leaders, public officials, young professionals, and university students, the event's organizers reached the venue's maximum capacity, selling over 80 tickets.
Maintaining the theme of raising awareness and providing a platform for civic engagement and philanthropic efforts, the series continued in April 2010 with a second Party With a Purpose to highlight another local business, Mad Moose House of BBQ, and benefit another non-profit organization, Broome County Gang Prevention. The event drew 125 attendees and raised over $2,000 for the cause.
Now preparing for their third event, the organizers are pleased to continue the Party With a Purpose Series which has a multi-faceted mission to: raise awareness for important causes in the local community, assist local organizations through supplemental funding, foster partnerships to create a more sustainable local economy, highlight and promote local businesses, engage young professionals, and provide an outlet for inter-generational and cross-sector networking.
