Car Fire on NYS Rte. 12

Car Fire on NYS Route 12

On March 2, 2011 at approximately 6:00 PM I spotted a car on fire heading south on NYS Route 12 near Kattleville Hill. After notifiying Chenango County 911 to contact Broome County via my fire radio, I tried to get the driver's attention. I was finally able to pull along side him and motion to him to pull over. He pulled into the XtraMart station on Route 12 near the Port Rd/ Prentice Rd intersection. Unfortunately he stopped the car near the gas pump and got out. Soon after a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy arrived and used his vehicle to push the burning car away from the pump. The Chenango Bridge Fire Department arrived and extinguished the blaze.
