Last January (2010) I took the advice of my best friend, John (who encouraged me to join "one reputable dating site"), and signed up for Cupid.com. After setting up my profile I saw an ad suggesting I become a Gold Member (which was the only option if I wanted to send messages and hold conversations with someone) and thus began filling out all of the credit information. Just before I clicked "OK" to become a full-fledged paying member I began having second thoughts. I concluded that there had to be an easier and less expensive way to meet the girl of my dreams rather than paying $100 for the annual membership. At the time I was using a laptop and the finger-controlled mousepad was very sensitive. As I scrolled to highlight and erase my credit card number the laptop accepted my touch as a double-click and within seconds my Visa was charged! Realizing I had now unintentionally purchased a one-year membership on Cupid I figured I better use it to my advantage and did my first search. The first girl I came across, the most compatible girl for me (at 97%), was Rebecca. We went back and forth, "winking" and sending messages over Cupid for a week until we decided, at the last minute, to meet at a coffee shop on Friday afternoon. As soon as I stepped foot inside and saw Rebecca, draped in her long white winter coat, I was in awe. The moment our eyes met we smiled. Rebecca and I spent the next three hours (!) talking. We likely would have stayed together longer but we each already had plans with friends set for that evening - she was going to a movie and I was going to dinner. The next night, Saturday, we went on our first official date and spent another three hours talking! After that second night I knew, and knew it even more after I kissed her, that she was the only girl I wanted to be with. Soon after our first date we officially became a couple. Over the course of ten months we went to the beach to see her family, made a few trips to an amusement park, stayed up late together setting up (and working) festivals, went mini-golfing, and even slept in boxes for a homeless people awareness event. Every moment with her, regardless of what we did or where we were, was and still is cherished. And so, on December 26, 2010, literally in the midst of a blizzard, I proposed to Rebecca, my best friend, my soul mate, on Bay Head Beach in New Jersey. (Yes, I got on one knee in five inches of snow! And yes, it does snow on the beach!) Our wedding is planned for this coming October (2011) and I have every reason to believe that fate brought me to Rebecca. If I never joined Cupid, if I never accidentally became a paying member, I may never have found her. :0)
Everyday for us is a fairy tale.
Joe
