Male Downy Woodpecker

Wildlife signs of spring

These three photos show the two signs of spring I see in this area. First we have two Downy Woodpeckers, male with the red headband and the female which is all black and white. She was quite shy and I had to sneak up to get a decent shot through the branches of the Lilac bush where the suet block was hung. The other sign is the return of our new river resident for a second year, the Muskrat.
