Marcy and I met two years ago through mutual friends who live both in Chenango and Broome County. We had met and went on a date in Greene, New York. We first started emailing each other and in the onset of our discussions, a quote came into play. The quote was from writer and poet Throeau. The quote was: "Happiness is like a butterfly, if you chase it will elude you and if you turn your attention to other things the butterfly will come and sit softly on your shoulder." Ironically enough Marcy had a magnet of this which was given to her as a gift and became somewhat a theme for us. I called her Mariposa as her name was Marcy and Mariposa meant butterfly in Spanish.
I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to make the proposal and engagement very special so I planned a trip to Rochester, New York where my sister works at the Strong Museum of Play. So I worked with my sister to get us admission into the Butterfly Museum inside the Strong Museum of Play. So I made arrangements with them to have the room reserved for a Sunday afternoon. I actually had January 16, 2011 scheduled to have a personal tour. I had worked with my sister and the staff to have them enter the tour midway through. The guide approached us 10 minutes into the 20 minute tour. As they approached us, they had two envelopes. My envelope was empty, but Marcy's had the quote inside inside her envelope (Happiness is like a butterfly, if you chase it will elude you and if you turn your attention to other things the butterfly will come and sit softly on your shoulder." ) As she opened and read the quote and was turned to the side of me, I was preparing and going down on one knee as butterflies flew around us. She accepted the proposal and we are to be married August 27, 2011 in Vestal, New York. We will have a butterfly theme.
