While walking the Riverwalk this morning, I spotted this male (?) Tree Swallow that appeared to be guarding one of the nest boxes recently put up along the Riverwalk. I was surprised how close I was able to get to the bird, within 15 feet or so. Got these two nice pictures.

According to Cornell Ornithology Center it is a Tree Swallow. My photo matches the photo they have on their web site. Barn swallows have a deeply forked tail and orangish color on the throat.

They are beautiful birds. My mom used to have a bird house that swallows would use every year... Had it hung up under their deck. That was close! the didn't seem to mind.
