Many drivers still do not understand proper construction zone merging technique, even with large signs explaining how to do so.
Here is a great example, the DOT has set up one large LED sign that alternates between two messages at the hill in front of the Residence Inn, and another in front of the new UHS facility farther down the parkway.
The first, which is in the first set of pictures, plainly states that there is a lane closure ahead, and that drivers should continue to use BOTH lanes to the merge point... which is about half a mile away.
The second, which is in this set of 3pictures, states that it is now the merge point and people should take turns between lanes.
When someone follows the correct rules of the road, and is passing all those that already merged over, there is some confusion and those in the wrong often create further problems by not allowing the person driving correctly to merge... or even worse, straddles the line and attempts to force the driver driving properly to merge to early.
Again, this is a reminder that BOTH LANES should be used to the merge point... not only in this instance, but the opposite direction and ANY construction merge points. The traffic planners/engineers do know whats best.
