East Branch Delaware River & Tributaries

Since the 1996 floods the rivers and tributaries have not been dredged or cleaned, there have been floods since then. The soil and land is eroding while the creeks and streams get wider, and wider re-routing making most rain events flood prone. Now since Irene properties that were not in a flood plane now are. The village of Margaretville a whole section of businesses on Main st. are in danger of collapse into the Bennikill stream to be demolished as they are leaning and some have broken away from the sidewalk. The DEP and DEC are environmental agencies that are responsible for keeping the ENVIRONMENT clean and safe will only give a 5 day emergency permit for property owners to dredge, while this appears to look good they send an employee from water and soil to supervise and make sure only minimal dredging is allowed. It is a band aid not a feaseble long term solution...
