Quilters; most with no experience in quilting, but having a lot of donated clothing, fabric, heart and awareness of the needs brought on by the flood started making Tuesdays a meeting day. This very small group began with a few Alumni, from the Mello-Dears all woman Drum Corps. They became the "Sweetheart Quilters" which incorporates the history of the drum corps with the current quilting projects. The production is very slow with such a small group, but you can be sure there is TLC packed into every stitch in each quilt. So far, the handful of women produced a small quilt for a 1 year old affected by the flood, and was able to give that to him on his 1st birthday. There is another quilt ready to deliver to an Alumni affected by the flood living in Apalachin. Looking for a home soon, for a 'NASCAR' quilt and one of varying shades of blue and blue prints. The most heartwarming part of having this group is, having a few of those personally affected by the flood, being a part of the group. This is a great way for them to get away from the rebuilding they work so hard on, to relax and still help someone else. They too will receive a quilt, that they can say they helped to make. If you would like to help even if you can't sew. They need help to produce more quilts, with winter knocking on the door. This group would welcome you on Tuesday mornings, 107 Central Ave Owego.
