I saw some balloons trapped in a bush on the edge of a field near our back yard about 10 days ago. I made a mental note to go out and photograph them when the weather was better. Well...yesterday was the day. As I approached the balloons and brightly colored ribbons I could see what looked like small scraps of paper with some writing on them lying on the ground. As I got closer I could see these were notes and I immediately had an idea of what this all meant. Someone had sent helium balloons out with the hope that someone else would find them! Turns out that these balloons were sent out by some elementary school kids in Pioneer, Ohio on January 13, 2012. They sent 370 balloons out to celebrate classmates and friends who have survived cancer and we ended up 3 or 4 of these balloons in our backyard! The cool part is that my wife is a cancer survivor as well!
I've contacted the teachers at North Central Elementary School in Pioneer, Ohio and they responded with great excitement! They have a Facebook page that has much more detail on this program they call "Hope Takes Flight" Here's the link in case you'd like to learn more about this.

Truly a wonderful find for us and a link to some kids over 500 miles away!
