Birch Run Trail in the morning at Sugarbush Resort near Waitsfield, VT on March 17, 2012

We Found the Snow!

If you're from the Twin Tiers and thought the ski season was a bit too short, there are still a few options. Several Southern Tier skiers headed to Vermont this past weekend (Mar 17-18, 2012) to extend their season. Sugarbush in Warren, VT and Killington, VT still have plenty of snow on the trails but the temperatures were unseasonably warm and with blue skies and abundant sunshine, it was melting fast. Temperatures rose to mid-sixties both Saturday and Sunday and down to about 30 degrees at night.

The skiers and snowboarders were enthusiastic having opportunities to get a few more turns in before what is likely to be and earlier than normal conclusion to the ski season. Some of the resorts in New England are known for staying open until the last part of April. If the unseasonably warm temperatures continue, even the Vermont season could be cut short by a week or two.

Closer to home, Elk Mountain in PA is still open and so are several resorts in the Catskills and Adirondacks.

Way to go! Triple Cities Ski Club members are die-hards. They will find snow until the bitter end.
