Conquistadors Winterguard Set for Action

3/25/2012 - Johnson City, NY

The Conquistadors Performing Arts Association of Johnson City, NY announced today that they will be bringing back their flagship program, the Conquistadors Winterguard, for the 2012-2013 season. The program is open to students ages 12-21 and the requirements are simply to be able to perform the work taught to them. Organization president Harry Eldridge had this to say:
"We are coming back strong this season. After 2 years of good solid work it was decided to take 2011-2012 off to reevaluate our goals for the program. We have several interested students and are currently putting together a high class, knowledgeable staff to coach these kids. Our main goal is to give students the opportunity to perform and work on a team where they may otherwise not have the option. Most kids that do this sport do it through their local school district but not all districts have this offering."
Eldridge went on to explain that the program will make its home in Owego, NY as it has in past seasons.
"Being a former resident of Owego I know a lot of people in the village and more importantly the school district. Although we are officially based in Johnson City, we want to be more of a program for the entire Southern Tier. Union-Endicott and Vestal both have guard programs and there are two independent units in the Binghamton area, Spectrum, and Reflections. It makes the most sense for us to be centered in Owego because of two reasons. One, the district does have an outdoor colorguard program but not a winter indoor program and we see an influx of Owego students, and two, we want to be the unit that serves Tioga County."
Rehearsals are set to begin this summer. Locations will be disclosed on the group website at a later date. The Conquistadors ask that anyone interested in helping or marching with the guard please visit www.conquistadors.webs.com or email conquistadorsdbc@gmail.com.
The group also asks that visitors please take a moment to view the following YouTube video to get a better understanding of the winter colorguard sport. http://youtu.be/0O4UU16e8VM
