Life returning along the Susquehanna

Life on the river after the flood

I've been waiting this spring, to see what the trees along the river would look like. On the trees, you can still see the water lines and 'Susque-dust' indicating the height of the flood water. The river banks are scored with lines where the level of the water slowly fell. Through all that debris, the leaves are budding and coming back. I'm trying to imagine just how much debris will be visible once the trees and bushes are all leafed out. The occasional log hung up in the tree, like the one on the South/Vestal end of the Vestal bridge, might be hard to hide. Just make sure when you're on those river walks or fishing, that you look overhead!

Sorry you missed my responses posted on two of your pictures. Rookery can be seen from Owego Reststop on Route 17. Walk to fence and head east back towards Owego. Heron nests are in several trees along opposite bank. Go before leaves block view.
