Terminally Ill help needed

I want to get the word out to fellow americans about how screwed up our government is regarding terminally ill patients. My husband was just diagnosed with liver cancer, and was given 5-7 months to live. Upon going to our local social security office, we were informed that you cannot collect social security disability right away. There is a FIVE month waiting period! Does anyone else see what's wrong with this? To top that off, he can not stop working because he will lose his health insurance! If he went on NYS disability, it would fall under the family leave act which entitles people to 12 weeks of NO PAY, which in turn means he would have to pay for his health insurance which would be over 500.00 a month! How can one afford that when social security can't help, and NYS disability is only 170.00 a week. Why isn't there a government program set up for terminally ill patients? Why isn't there a government agency set up for people who have worked all of their lives, and can't collect a dime? This man has worked all of his life, and paid into social security, and will not see one cent of it because he is terminal. This is WRONG, and I want people to know about it. Please help me put the word out to others, and the government. I have written to senator Libous, and to Ms. Clinton. I am sure I will not get a response, but I am trying.

What a terrible situation to be in, please also email Chuck Schumer and Maurice Hinchley, they always respond. If he were to go on disability he may be eligible for medicaid. Trust me you paid into it, use it. Please keep us posted.
