We were at the camper during heavy thunderstorms in late May. The heavy rain filled the wells in the paddle boat with water. The morning after the storms I found a Luna moth floating in the water in one of the wells. Thinking it was dead, I carefully put my hand under it and scooped it out of the water to get a better look. Almost immediately the moth's legs began moving. I placed it in the grass and watched. At first the moth was too tired to even maintain a level stance. It just toppled head first in the grass. I helped it stay level in the grass until it was strong enough to stand level on its own. I then decided to try to get some close-up photos. As I was getting the close-up photos, the moth began rapidly walking toward the camera. It was encouraging that he was at that point strong enough to charge at the camera. I monitored the moth's progress until it flew away. The whole process from rescue from the water to flight took just under an hour.
