The eighth running of the Smithville Day 5K took place June 9, 2012 starting at 9:30 a.m. 132 runners competed in the race. The temperatures were in the mid 60s, cloudy with light rain. The top female finisher was Trish Horan of Norwich with a time of 19:49. The top male finisher was Jeff Martinez of Binghamton, setting a new record for the Smithville course with a time of 15:31.

The annual race is sponsored by the Genegantslet Fire Company and The Town of Smithville. All proceeds benefit the volunteer fire department in Smithville.
