I remember many years ago receiving a magic bean, to plant in a cup, given to me by my teacher. I don't remember what happened to it, but I was reminded of that moment in time when, my neighbor came to me and said, “My son has a bean that he planted in school (in a cup) we don’t want to see it die, so we were wondering if you had room in your garden?” I said I certainly do, I just planted a whole row of wax beans and I have the perfect spot. After they watched me plant it I said what is your name, he said, my name is Douglas! Well Douglas, now that you know where your bean plant is, you and your dad can come and see it anytime. The last few weeks “Douglas’s Bean” has turned into a magnificent blooming vine brightening my garden every morning. Douglas’s magic beanstalk is determined to reach up to the Giants Castle,(as the story goes) but we don’t want giants here, they will stomp in the garden! They will eat all the tomatoes! so I keep it twisted around the fence. Little does Douglas know that his magic beanstalk is a Zucchini?
