Ranucci's Big Butt BBQ made the finals in all 3 categories at the Smoke on the Mountain BBQ Competition held July 20-21 in Galax, VA (Memphis BBQ Network sanctioned event). This was our first time competing at this particular event and we will be sure to plan to attend yearly from now on. Once again we were up against some top notch teams such as Jack's Old South (with Myron Mixon whom you may know from the BBQ Pit Master's TV show). The Galax competition is known for its hand crafted custom fiddle trophies and we attended with hopes to bring one home... so bringing THREE home was totally unexpected. In the final judging we won FIRST place in pork shoulder, second place in whole hog, and third place in ribs. Ranucci's Big butt BBQ competition team members are Ed & Cathy Ranucci of Endwell, NY, Deana and Kyra Zopff of Endwell, NY, Alex, Zoe, Mila and Giada Ranucci of Belmont North Carolina formerly from Port Dickinson and Chenango Forks. We are totally thrilled and glad to be bringing news of our new status back to our restaurant, Ranucci's BBQ & Grill, in Belmont, NC (just outside of Charlotte). Our next competition will be the 10th Annual Time Warner Cable BBQ and Blues, the Southeast's largest MBN sanctioned BBQ festival, held in Charlotte, NC on October 12-13.
