In the 15 years I have lived on Pennsylvania Ave. in Apalachin. There have been about 20 DWI crashes in front of my home. This one happened today, sometime after midnight. It is a 30 mph zone on a slight curve. Almost ALL of these people attempt to leave the scene. I have had people run before I get there. Some will drive off(I have followed a few to their homes, and report address to police.) One person has been involved in 2 crashes in my yard. He attempted 1 time while I was standing with him to get back into his car and drive off. I refused to allow him back into his car. I had to physically restrain him until the police arrived. I have attended a town metting in an attempt to better the situation here. It's very true about the old saying about trying to fight city hall. The meeting was a joke. Lot's of chatter nothing at all ever came of it. I really believe if this gradual curve was better marked, better light, reflectors, etc. These are all inexpensive items, that just might make the difference of someone crashing into our property and homes, or making it home safely. Beefed up patrols won't help. If an officer was parked in my driveway. He would just have a front row seat to the next event.
