Wild Turkeys on Alert

Elusive Wild Turkeys Captured

Well, captured in a photo, that is. This bird is as colorful as any North American bird. I once thought that turkeys were drab and ugly. I must confess that I have changed my mind. I sneaked through a cemetery, hiding behind tombstones and crouched as low as these old knees would let me. I kept as quiet as possible (at times holding my breath while trying not to move). These beauties were ever on the alert, but I "captured" a few to my delight. I could not believe just how colorful they were. I had once believed they were just brown; now I found that they are like Davids Coat of Many Colors. They were brown, white, and black, they were also a glossy golden orange and a silky green that shone in the sun.
I have taken to watching these amazing birds while they scratch for their dinner, race across the pasture, and strut. Oh my how they strut. It is almost like a dance. And when three or four line up and strut side by side it is like a march. It is quite a sight to see.
I could never shoot one except with a camera.
