When a bird is hungry he'll do anything to get to the food.H

Hangin' out for Lunch

When I looked outside and saw this bird hanging upside down I was surprised and wondered why he would be doing that. Then I noticed the seed level in the tube. If he stood upright he would not be able to eat because the seed on that level was below the feeding hole. So the only way he could eat was to hang upside down and use the lower feeding hole.

You have captured my favorite bird. Goldfinches. They are well known to hang upside down, and there are feeders with the holes under the perches to encourage that. The red house finches and Chickadees will do the same to get at the seeds.
