The frist time I saw this one was 2007 in almost the same spot! Along Creek in Maine. It carries its ID on the HW (hindwing) down side in the cell in the Middle. A silver Comma and a Dot. hard to see in the Guide Books (which it inspired me to buy) 1 inch photo. The butterfly is only 2 3/8 to 2 5/8 inches. which is bigger than its Relatives . The Comma & the Gray Comma. It belongs to the group of Angle Wing Dutterflies. Proud & Defiant it will even chase of birds. Eats rotten Burries,Sap,Animal feces (scat)(shit). This one is from the Summer Brood . The fall brood's HW is like the same color as the FW. which raises a few more Questions? The South has 5 Broods a year & the guide doesn't hazzard a guess on the sex! Come on Summer!
