We have had a pair of robins return to our home every spring here in Unadilla since we moved here in 2001. Two years ago they had their first successful brood right outside our kitchen window. This year we have removed the tall, unruly shrubs that the pair have used as their homes in the past. As a result they have found another place to build their nest this year – on my portable garden cart! Yesterday (04.26.08) the nest was mere beginnings constructed of some wispy grass in a circle without a bottom. This morning it is nearly complete with the pair hard at work adding the finishing touches. I guess I need to back off from using my garden tools for a while – a pleasant excuse at any rate!
The first picture is their first successful brood on the second try for that year (08.02.06). The next picture is one of the robins hard at work this year (taken through a screen). The last picture is the nest on the cart as it is this morning (04.27.08).
