I live just up the hill from Laurens near the Oneonta airport. This Scarlet Tanager flew into my dining room window this morning, Monday May 12th. I went outside to check on him and see if he was hurt other than being stunned. I picked him up and checked him out. He stayed in my hand for a good 10 minutes and then finally flew away. I was able to take these pictures while "talking" quietly to him. He did not seem to be in any hurry to fly away. Scarlet Tanagers are pretty rare so I was thrilled to see him let alone actually hold him. What a beautiful bird!

That's awesome!! I've had the pleasure of feeding birds and other animals by hand; but I must say, "I'M JEALOUS!!!" I'm glad to know theire's other bird whisperers out there:-)

You are one lucky person, to get to hold a Scarlet Tananger for as long as you did. They sure are pretty. This male looks a little stunned and glassy eyed. Hope he will be all right.
