Hatala Groundhog Job Shadow Day 2013

Hatala Orthodontics Groundhog Shadow Day

18 high school students walked in the shadows of Dr. Mark P. Hatala and his orthodontic staff as part of Groundhog Job Shadow Day, January 30th, 2013. Groundhog Job Shadow Day is an annual international effort to acquaint students with the world of work through on-the-job experiences. By observing their orthodontic mentors, the students experienced a typical day in an orthodontic practice. They discovered the wide range of rewarding career opportunities available in orthodontic practices.

The following students participated:
Chenango Forks High School: Sarah Camp, Kelsie Carter, Brandy Engel, Brooke Freije, Kayla Sweet;
Maine-Endwell High School: Meredith Suwak, Kayla Wilkinson;
Seton Catholic High School: Liza Calleo, Katherine Loughlin, Gabby Olsa;
Vestal High School: Sonia Nunez, Monica Wassel, William Wilson;
Windsor High School: Kylie Buchek, Rachel Liddie, Ashkan Rahimi, Lydia Sabatine, Kortnie Zollbrecht;

Dr. Hatala and his staff shed some light on the workings of the practice – from orthodontic examinations and adjusting braces on patients to the use of x-ray machines and computer technology. Through their shadowing experience, the students were able to learn about the special skills and education required to become an orthodontist, hygienist, or lab technician.

Dr. Hatala and the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) are committed to introducing young people to the knowledge and skills they will need to achieve their dreams.
