Whittemore Hill/Foster Valley Rd Bridge 2011

Unsafe Bridge in Tioga County

The damage began with the flooding in 2011. The bridge at the bottom of Whittemore Hill, just before Foster Valley Road, is ancient. When the floods sent water pouring over the top, it wore away the structure. In this picture, you can see that the concrete has completely disintegrated, leaving a gap between the steel beams that make up the bridge's frame.

School buses cross this bridge daily. The drivers know to stay toward the middle and avoid the gaps. The Campville Fire Department has decided, however, that it's no longer safe to drive their very expensive trucks over the bridge, for fear it could collapse.

Tioga County has been made aware of this situation, but nothing has been done to address it.

Hmmm Sounds like the local school district doesn't have as much sense as the first responders do. Good call using social media. I'll copy the link to your story and post it on my fb wall. Many friends in Owego.
