Spring time visitor
We usually see the pileated woodpecker come through every spring, this guy was having a feast on bugs in the tree.

You are so lucky. What a beautiful shot. I've only caught a glimpse of that red in flight through trees. Never have been able to see let alone capture a shot of one.

I saw this guy a couple of weeks ago on my road in Port Dick while I was taking a walk. He followed me flying from tree to tree for a short distance then went to work on a tree. Wood chips were flying in every direction. Wish I had a camera.!
