Jonathan Wood With 'Uncle Sam'

"The Raptor Project" at Waterman Ctr.

Just a few of the pictures from today's visit of Jonathan Wood from "The Raptor Project" to the Waterman Nature Center in Apalachin. He rehabilitates and rescues injured predatory birds. Those that are unable to be re-introduced to the wild are used to demonstrate to the public these magnificent birds. As a Master Falconer, he also uses a few of these birds in the ancient hunting sport of Falconry. Among the birds are Kestrels, Eagles, Hooded Caracals, Snowy Owls, Great Horned Owls, and the largest of the owls, the European Eagle Owl, only slightly smaller than our Bald and Golden Eagles.

I so wish I knew he was back again. I would have loved to see these birds up close.
