While preparing to go out, my daughter found a cluster of worms crawling in a circle. This was very unusual, so I filmed it and took a few pictures. I uploaded a picture of a closeup of the worms, and a video named wormsinacircle.asf. as well, but not using this form. We have no idea what type of worms these are.

joester is correct. There are different varities of knat larvae that do this around the world. Might have something to do with the rain we had. The circle theory is that the lead larvae meets up with the back of the line. Not the brighest bugs.

we found similar worms in our driveway - traveling in a straight line, but almost in a braided formation. I 1st thought someone ran over a small snake, but then realized it was moving.

Found same in my back yard today-been searching the web for half hour leading to this! We thought could have been parasite from our dog-but i felt is was a definite Larva of some kind> as long as it didn't come out of my dog! CRAZY-NASTY!

My son just found a group of these worms circling on my concrete patio. Same exact worm going around and around. If they do not have a name I would like to suggest "NASCAR worms" Very strange to see!

It took a while and a lot of looking, but these are Fungus Gnat larvae as far as I can tell. The pictures I found online are a close to a match as I think anyone will ever get. I used other photos I had taken to try identifying them.
