The Unatego Spartans came into the Cardinals house sporting a 4-4 record for the year. The Birds were 6-2. On paper, and looking at nothing more than the records of the two teams - one would have to consider the Card's to be the favorites.
Not today. :( The boys from NV were down two cylinders, to use an automotive analogy, with both of their principal speedsters out due to injury in the forms of Travis French and John Stagg. French in particular has been a work horse for the team all season long. Fortunately the weather was nice, or else this would have been a really long day for the boys in red. The Spartans showed up big, fast, aggressive, and firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball. Offensively they had superior firepower at both passing and receiving and defensively they were just plain fast and explosive. They exploited both of these advantages to a shutout win of 19-0 over what has been a tough Cardinals team.
The squad from Unatego moves to a 5-4 record for the year and the Cardinals drop to a 6-3 - a winning season for sure - but a bummer of a way to end the season.
