Captain James Patrick Weir

Guilford Memorial Day Honors Capt. Weir

The Guilford Memeorial Day parade will begin at 8:00 AM Monday, May 25, 2009 on School Street , and make its way to the Guilford Park where the ceremonies will take place. Any veterans who wish to participate should be at Dexheimer’s storage area on School Street between 7:30 and 7:45 AM .

One highlight of the ceremonies this year will be to honor James Patrick Weir, who grew up here in Guilford , and was killed in Korea in 1950. Surviving family members and friends of Mr. Weir are expected to attend.

This year, instead of riding on floats, GHS has decided to chauffeur those veterans who don’t wish to march. If you wish to march or to ride, please let us know so we can determine how many vehicles will be needed.

The reception will be held at the Guilford United Methodist Church on Main Street immediately after the parade. This will serve as both a time for celebrating our veterans, and as a recognition ceremony for the 2009 GHS Citizen of the Year. Displays of documents and photos will be available for viewing, as well as the raffle of a patriotic quillow, which is a blanket that folds up into a pillow.

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact either Scott Parsons at (607)-895-6405, or David Hubbard at (607)-895-6425 by Friday, May 15, 2009 .

We hope to see you there. Thank you.
