Watched this woodchuck having breakfast Sunday morning 07/19/2009. Something must have scared it and it ran for this nearby tree in my neighbors front yard. It climbed up about 8 feet. In the photo it is getting ready to come back down. The only person I talked to about it that has ever seen a woodchuck climb a tree was my brother about 59 years ago.

About 15yrs.ago,I was walking around our meadow and in a blue spruce,four ft. off the ground was a young groundhog.He must have been frightened by my approach.This was the only siting in a tree that I had heard of.Thanks
