Last week my husband and I were in the Adirondacks and did a hike up one of the mountains near Saranac Lake. A couple arrived at the top of the rather steep climb with their black Newfoundland dog. There were two large rain puddles and the dog made himself at home in one, claiming his territory in the cool water. In fact, he snarled at anyone approaching his "private" pool.
