I was driving home late at night in rural Susquehanna County near Rush, PA when I rounded a curve and found the night sky full of flame! As I got closer I could see that it was a gas well burnoff in progress. The whole hillside was bathed in an orange glow. I rolled down the window to take a picture and could hear the sound of the gas burning-similar to the sound of a hotair balloon burner being "fired up". I had heard about this process but had never seen it before. This is a part of the changing landscape above the Marcellus shale.
