This is why they carry guns in Alaska

The gentleman pictured with the bear was going for a normal walk in Alaska, when he heard a twig snap he turned around to see a huge black bear coming at him. He was able to get his gun out just in time.

Don't believe that's a black bear, more like a brown or grizzly bear.

No doubt, it is a brown bear... which is a species of Grizzly. A black bear it isn't.

Looks awful thin to me. You can see it's ribs. and the forelegs look very thin, may have been desperately hungry. Notice also the shoulders, how the bones are very prominent. Just does not look like it was a healthy bear.

I agree it looks more like a Brown or a Grizzly but a brown is Not a Subspecies of grizzly, a grizzly is a subspecies of Brown

Big big ole' Grizz that was really hungry. Another reason why I carry when I go for a walk in the woods. You never know what can happen.

I got a little more of the story from a friend. It was a grizz and an old one. No teeth and very little fat. The animal was doing what comes easy meal available, why not take it? Another reason to have some protection available.
