Truck crash in Davenport Center

A tractor trailer crashed into a house on Rt. 23 in the town of Davenport Center at about 5 AM today. The truck was carrying formed concrete materials and lost control on the curve. The truck hit the Northwest corner of the small white house.

A resident of the house, Rhonda Hitchcock, was reported to have been killed in the accident. Her daughter and grandson who were also in the house and asleep received injuries and were taken to the hospital in Oneonta.

There was light slush on the road at the time that may have been a factor. The truck driver was also injured and taken to Oneonta Fox Hospital.

Even posted limits and flashing lights mean nothing when roads are slippery,SLOWDOWN. By the way Denny A. Obama and Bush have nothing to do with it this is Driver error if nothing else!

There is absolutely no reason to blame DOT here! I totally agree with Denny, Its well posted...and if you're doing the posted speed limit..no problems! Maybe drivers should pay some more attention to signs and such!

instead of blaming DOT. Drivers need to start taking actions for thier mistakes. I drive for my job, and I come across countless idiots on the road. It is always easy to pass the blame and the buck. I am sure the driver feels bad and guilty.

this was bound 2 happen the way trucks fly on this road at those hours. i live in davenport ctr. State troopers never pull any trucks over just cars. maybe they should put some more focus on them. on any given day between 4a.m @ 6a.m. way over 40mph.

Yeah its a bad curb, but it is well marked, has a flashing yellow lights to get your attention well in advance. If you do the POSTED speed limit there is no problem. But hey, call King Obama cause there has got to be a way to blame this on G W Bush.

We don't know the facts. I know the roads weren't so good this morning. I would imagine that the driver is feeling overwhelming grief. This is an awful tragedy and a reminder to all of us to drive responsibly. I am so sorry for this families loss

Very sad. How about instead of blaming DOT and the "dangerous curve" people need to learn to SLOW DOWN!!!!!!

If this is the curve I think it is, this is not the first time these houses have been damaged by a semi rig. There should be more of a warning about that curve. It seems like maybe 12 years ago there was a bad crash that killed the truck driver.
