The Goodwill Theatre will present “Tish Oney Sings Peggy Lee” on Saturday, April 17 at 8:00 pm at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. This performance, which features an accomplished jazz vocalist and accompanying guitarist, is the final event for the Goodwill Theatre’s 2009-2010 Cabaret Series, sponsored by Mondorf & Fenwick, CPAs.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for senior citizens and students. Reservations and information on all shows are available by calling the Goodwill Theatre Inc. offices at (607) 772-2404, ext. 1. Tickets, if still available, will be sold at the door one hour before show time.
Tish Oney was nominated for the SAMMY Award for Best Jazz Vocalist in 2001. She is the arranger and Artistic Director of three nationally-touring productions including “The Peggy Lee Project.” She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the field of Jazz Studies at The University of Southern California's renowned Thornton School of Music.
The presentation features updated, contemporary jazz arrangements of original songs composed by Peggy Lee. Oney’s collaboration with Lee's former music director and guitarist, John Chiodini, has produced an unparalleled tribute to a prolific, but relatively under-appreciated songwriter.
“Dr. Tish Oney is introducing a new generation to the songs of Peggy Lee while putting her own spin on them, but Oney is so much more than this project,” Joe Montague wrote in Riveting Riffs Magazine. “She is one of the finest arrangers and composers on the jazz music scene today and her vocals are breathtakingly beautiful.”
Oney was lauded in the 2008 book “The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide” authored by jazz critic Scott Yanow. She has also been honored with The Diane Warren Award and a second initiation into national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda. Her latest CD, “Dear Peg,” earned international recognition in WHLI Radio’s Top 50 Releases of 2009 and attained 2010 Grammy Award consideration for “Best Jazz Vocal Album” and “Best Traditional Pop Album.” Her diverse artistic talents combine to form a consummate vocal artist with exceptional technique, improvisational skill, and expertise.
