Binghamton Black Bears near their season opener
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Opening puck drop is just over one week away for the Innagural season of the Binghamton Black Bears.
Earlier this week, the Black Bears held their first training camp to prepare for the Federal Prospects Hockey League season (FPHL).
The current 30 man roster features a mix of players from those with FPHL experience to those without, including players who hail from the US, Canada, Russia, and more.
Black Bears General Manager Charley Watson said in terms of the roster they should have it finalized by early next week.
“I would say we are probably ninety percent ready. Right now we have close to 30 guys in camp so far so we will have our team picked by probably Tuesday or Wednesday of next week,” Watson said.
The General Manager that his favorite part of the whole process has been interacting with the community he hopes his team will entertain for years to come.
“My favorite process no matter where I go is getting to meet the people. Getting out in the community and bragging up our team and just listening to the fans,” he said. “You get the hardcore hockey fans that are around and I love talking hockey.”
The Black bears open their season on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Watertown against the Watertown Wolves.
