BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Republican Jared M. Kraham will become the next mayor of Binghamton.
The unofficial count according to the Broome County Board of Elections shows Kraham defeated Democrat Joe Burns by nearly 700 votes.
Kraham earned 3,763 votes while Burns earned 3,073 votes.
Burns conceded the race to Kraham late Tuesday night.
With the victory, Kraham will be the 51st Mayor of Binghamton, after current Binghamton Mayor Rich David’s term ends. David is a republican.
Currently, Kraham serves in the mayor’s office. Burns will remain on the Binghamton City Council representing portions of the city’s southside.
Kraham said he has spoken with thousands of people who said they have seen progress since he has been executive assistant to Mayor David. He told 12 News that his time in the Mayor’s Office sets him up to take over as the next Mayor of Binghamton.
