(WBNG) -- In this edition of “You Ask, We Answer,” 12 News spoke with Town of Kirkwood supervisor Lewis Grubham and FedEx Ground to get more insight into a project at the location of the old Singer Link building on Industrial Park Drive.

Turns out, the project is a more than 470,000 square-foot space for FedEx Ground’s new package sorting and distribution center. FedEx officials say the location offers the company easy access to major highways, proximity to distribution centers, and “a strong local community workforce for recruiting employees.”

Grubham served on the town board for 20 years before taking over as supervisor and says the project is bigger than just his town.

“It’s really important I think, not just for Kirkwood, it’s wonderful for Kirkwood, but for the entire area,” Grubham said. “It’s one more property that was falling into disrepair, that’s now going to have a brand new building on it, paying taxes and employing people.”

FedEx Ground officials expect the center to be complete by October 2022, and while final decisions on staffing have yet to be confirmed, Grubham told 12 News he expects between 200 and 300 jobs at the center. Those jobs will be both part-time and full-time.

Ground broke on the project this past March.
