VESTAL (WBNG) -- Catholic Charities of Broome County hosted their 24th annual ‘Thanks For Giving’ turkey drive Thursday morning.

Johnson City Police Department along with ten other local agencies stepped up to the plate this year and helped purchase roughly 400 turkeys plus more Thanksgiving essentials to donate to those who are less fortunate.

Event organizers told 12 News that this is all about answering the call and lending a hand this holiday season.

“I think that is just the best part of it. You know that there is so many people who are in need in our community and they usually do not reach out for help but at the holidays they know they can and the community steps up and it is just amazing” explained Vanessa Friebal, a manager at Catholic Charities.

Friebal went on to say that none of this would be possible without the help from volunteers and the local agencies.

As for the turkeys, they will be distributed through Catholic Charities Nov 20.
