(WBNG) -- In just one week, the busiest shopping season of the year is set to begin.

Tom’s Coffee, Cards and Gifts Owner Tom Kelleher said preparations for the holiday season began in early 2021.

“After being so experienced in business for 40 years, we ordered all of our Christmas merchandise in the first quarter of this year,” Kelleher said. “We’ve had no issue getting supplies and the things we need for the holiday season into our shop.”

However, Tom’s isn’t the only area business to start early.

Fuddy Duddy’s Confectionery in Owego is non-stop baking and making.

“Christmas is our Super Bowl,” said Fuddy Duddy’s Owner Steve Cruty. “We start planning for the holiday’s in April actually. So, by this time when people are just starting to get into the mood, we’re ready for kickoff.”

However, the shelves at Fuddy Duddy’s might look different this year. Cruty said there’s been some challenges because of supply chain issues.

“We found that many of our items that we normally bring in for the holidays are not available,” he said. “We have to find new sources, new suppliers and we really urge our customers to please come shop early because we don’t know how long that we’re going to have the items in store.”

However, both Fuddy Duddy’s and Tom’s are ready for the busy season.

“Small Business Saturday and Black Friday has always been tremendous for us and we see no reason why it’s not going to be more so this year,” said Kelleher.

“We’ve very glad that we have a lot of faithful friends and and fans who come back year after year,” Cruty said.
