Binghamton (WBNG) - A jury has found a Deposit man guilty in the attempted murder of a New York State trooper.

According to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office, Scott Mawhiney was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder of an officer and aggravated assault of an officer, as well as guilty on misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a weapon and harassment.

Mawhiney was arrested and charged with shooting Trooper Ryan Thorp in June at a residence on Sunrise Terrace in the Town of Deposit.

According to New York State Police, Thorp was responding to a domestic incident on June 23rd when he was shot in the arm. Thorp, a three-year veteran of state police, was released from the hospital several days after the shooting.

In July, Mawhiney pleaded not guilty to a nine-count indictment in Broome County.
