BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - On Friday morning, Binghamton Mayor Rich David and members of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church joined at Binghamton City hall to raise the Armenian flag in honor of the church’s 90th anniversary.

Binghamton Mayor Rich David declared November 19 2021 “St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church Day” and presented a proclamation to Reverend Father Kapriel Mouradjian in recognition of what the Armenian community has provided for the city of Binghamton.

“I accept this on behalf of all those who came before me those 90, 100 years ago who came to this blessed country, surviving the Armenian genocide, surviving death because they believed in their faith as Christians. It’s for them that we’re here.” said Rev. Kapriel.

The church was founded by Armenian immigrants in 1931 at 12 Corbett Ave. on Binghamton’s South Side, where it remains active today.
