Top Tigers! Tioga wins state title over Moriah, 27-0
Syracuse (WBNG) - The Tioga Tigers are, once again, NYS High School football state champs! Tioga took down Moriah in the Class D championship game in Syracuse Friday afternoon.
Moriah held Tioga to just 7 points through the first three quarters, the lone score being a 75-yard run by quarterback Caden Bellis in the 1st. But the Tiger’s offense exploded in the 4th, scoring 20 points and leading them to their 2nd state championship.
Tioga’s running back Gavin Godfrey scored the second touchdown on a pass from Bellis, breaking several tackles en route to the endzone. While Emmett Wood took advantage of the tired Moriah defense and tacked on two more scores to seal the deal.
The Tiger’s defense shined as well, as Moriah struggled to move the ball effectively throughout most of the game.
“When you think about this and you think about all of the minutes we put together all of us,” said Wood. “The seniors, we put in so much time in the last two years and over quarantine. I just feel like it’s really paid off. "
A parade for the team is scheduled for tonight, starting in Lounsbury, going through Nichols into Tioga Center, and then ending at the high school!
Congrats to Tioga and well done!
