(WBNG) -- Governor Kathy Hochul announced that take-home COVID-19 testing kits will be widely available for New Yorkers no later than New Year’s Eve.

This comes after Governor Hochul announced that COVID and hospital rates are rising as the positive COVID cases reach 28,924 in New York State.

Hochul also said that the state is working on a portal for New Yorkers to order take-home tests to avoid standing in long lines.

Additionally, President Joe Biden offered to send ambulances and EMTs to help hospital workers in the state.

Take-home testing kits will be available for school districts, county emergency managers, New York City, and vaccination sites, according to Hochul.
