(WBNG) -- Are you interested in becoming a New York State Trooper? If so, there are a few things you should know before taking the New York State Police Trooper exam.
The New York State Police have served the citizens of New York since 1917. Troop C Recruiter Trooper Lauren Warner said NYS Troopers have many duties.
“We do everything from patrol day to day activities, highway enforcement, 911 calls, and we do investigations,” Warner said.
Trooper Chris Candon said they also deal with criminal investigations, crimes, robberies, burglaries, larcenies, and they also assist EMS.
The NYS Police Trooper exam will be administered from January to April 2022.
“To qualify to take the exam you need to be at least 20-years-old at the time of application, you must not have reached your 30th birthday at the time of the application deadline with the exception of military,” Warner said. “You also need to be a U.S. citizen and also have a GED or High School Diploma to take the exam.”
Warner added that you will need 60 college credits at the time of appointment.
For the first time ever a computer-based exam will be offered at 54 testing centers in New York, over 250 locations in the U.S., and on 112 Military bases around the world.
