VESTAL, N.Y. (WBNG) - After having three games postponed due to COVID protocols within its program, the Binghamton women’s basketball team returned to the court against first-place NJIT in its America East opener on Saturday afternoon. Dressing just nine players, the Bearcats nearly completed a fourth-quarter comeback but fell short, 66-64.

Senior Hayley Moore led the Bearcats with 13 points; in the third straight game she has reached double figures. Freshman forward Genevieve Coleman netted a career-high 12 points. Also reaching double figures in scoring were junior forward Birna Benonysdottir, who netted 11 points, and junior guard Denai Bowman, who added 10.

On the other side, Lyzi Litwinko and Erin Stoll each netted a game-high 19 points for NJIT while Kenna Squier added 14 points. Litwinko also recorded a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Next up for Binghamton is a road trip to Hartford on Wednesday, tip-off from Connecticut is 7 p.m.
